In the course of her lengthy career Meryl Streep has become almost synonymous with high-brow dramas. The silver screen veteran - who has two Oscar gongs and a staggering 13 nominations under her belt - looks set to make a rather different impression in her latest film outing, however. She has signed up to star in a movie version of the Abba musical Mamma Mia!.
Following hot on the heels of her success in the fashion world comedy The Devil Wears Prada, the renowned actress is planning to strut her stuff in a kitsch extravaganza of song and dance. It won't be the first time she's hit a few high notes on the big screen, though, as she has already aired her vocal talents in Postcards From The Edge and A Prairie Home Companion.
In the flick, the 57-year-old will play a single mum whose daughter wants to discover the identity of the father she has never known. In order to get to the bottom of the mystery she invites three men - all of whom potentially fill the paternity slot - to her wedding.
