With the awards season now moving into full swing, many of the cinema industry's biggest names are hoping to pick up a gong or two. A couple of British stars attending the annual BAFTA bash in LA were left in no doubt about how much they are appreciated, though - even before the trophies are presented.
And it wasn't only Ioan Gruffud and his fiancée Alice Evans who were looking loved up, as Emily Blunt and her boyfriend Michael Buble were also clearly enamoured at the glitzy soiree. The Welsh actor and his bride-to-be were snapped embracing warmly on their way into the bash, as were Emily and her Canadian beau.
London-born starlet Emily is in the running for an award at tonight's Golden Globes in recognistion of her performance in The Devil Wears Prada. But after seeing the musical drama Dreamgirls she reckons newcomer Jennifer Hudson is a shoo-in for the prize. "Jennifer really lights up the screen," said the modest 23-year-old. "When she performed one of her big numbers, my friend turned to me and said 'Yeah, good luck on Monday'... I'll just be happy if I don't trip on the red carpet!"
Sunday's gala in the Four Season's Hotel was organised to celebrate the nominations for this year's BAFTA Awards, which will be handed out on February 11 in London. Royal drama The Queen looks set for glory at this year's event after getting the nod in ten different categories.
Its star, Dame Helen Mirren, is up against Judi Dench, Penelope Cruz, Meryl Streep and Kate Winslet for the best actress trophy. Daniel Craig meanwhile does battle with Forest Whitaker, Leonardo DiCaprio, Richard Griffiths and Peter O'Toole for best actor.
