Brits Noel Clarke, Rebecca Hall and Tony Kebbell have been nominated for this year's Bafta 'rising star' award. They will be competing against Canadian Michael Cera and Irish actor Michael Fassbender.

Best known for his role as Mickey in Doctor Who, multi-talented Noel, 33, also wrote and starred in British drama Kidulthood, alongside Jaime Winstone.

Rebecca Hall secured a place on the list with her performance opposite Scarlett Johansson and Penelope Cruz in Woody Allen's Vicky Cristina Barcelona. Other movie credits include The Prestige and Golden Globe-nominated film Frost/Nixon.

The third member of the British trio, RocknRolla actor Tony, won an award last year for his part in Joy Division bio-pic Control and recently finished filming Prince Of Persia with Jake Gyllenhaal.

Speaking at the announcement of the shortlist, he described just being nominated as a "massive honour".

Tony and co's Canadian and Irish competitors received critical acclaim respectively for the Oscar-winning comedy Juno and playing IRA member Bobby Sands in Hunger.

The finalists were announced by last year's winner Shia La Beouf via video link at the Bafta headquarters on Thursday. Past recipient James McAvoy was among the panel which selected the five nominees.

The Bafta ceremony takes place on February 8.
