Slumdog Millionaire continued its rags to riches storm of Hollywood on Saturday as British director Danny Boyle took the top honour at the Director's Guild of America awards.
At the Los Angeles hosted ceremony - seen to portend the winner of Academy Awards's director gong – Danny's Indian game show offering saw off fierce competition from fellow Oscar hopeful's David Fincher for The Curious Case of Benjamin Button, Ron Howard for Frost/Nixon, Christopher Nolan's The Dark Knight and Gus Van Sant for Milk.
And while he might have been charged with bestowing a nomination award on Ron Howard Stateside, across the pond Welsh Frost/Nixon actor Michael Sheen was himself being feted at the Evening Standard Film Awards.
Michael was honoured with the best actor award – unusually this year shared between two winners, Michael and Irish actor Pat Shortt for his portrayal of a lonely pump attendant in 2007's Garage.
Tilda Swinton pipped Kate Winslet to the post to be named best actress for her work in Julia, while The Reader's Stephen Daldry won the best director award and Hunger won best film at Sunday's ceremony.
