Having solved an average of three murders each week over his 12-year tensure in the fictional county of Midsomer, Detective Chief Inspector Barnaby has had a busy career.
John Nettles, the man who brings the down-to-earth police chief to life in Midsomer Murders, has decided the time has finally come to quit on-screen mystery-solving in the Shires. The 65-year-old, who has appeared in the show since it debuted in 1997, will make two more series and then leave the role at the end of next year.
"It’s the end of an era for me, and while I'm very sad to be handing in Barnaby's police badge, he has solved some 200 murders, which I think meets the target of modern policing! I wish my successor, whoever he or she is, the very best of luck," John said on Wednesday.
