EastEnders actress Wendy Richards has lost her courageous battle for life. The 68-year-old star, who had a loyal following playing Pauline, the matriarch of the Fowler family, revealed in October she was suffering from an aggressive terminal form of cancer.

Her agent Kevin Francis said: "She was incredibly brave and retained her sense of humour right to the end."

Soon after announcing the news of her illness the TV favourite married her long-term partner John Burns.

The much-loved actress was also known to viewers for her roles in classic Seventies series such as Are You Being Served?, and the Carry On films.
