The world's most glamorous women are prepared to drop everything when Valentino calls. Led by Gwyneth Paltrow, they did so this week for the New York premiere of Valentino: The Last Emperor, a documentary which chronicles the last two years of the designer's reign at the helm of his fashion empire.
Also upping the style factor were actress Clare Danes, pretty in a pistachio silk dress with corsage detail, and models Agyness Deyn and Helena Christiansen.
Anne Hathaway, who appears in the film, worked a classic Hollywood look in a one-shoulder gown accessorised with sparkling earrings, and with her hair in loose curls.
Meanwhile Madonna eschewed the red carpet, entering at the back before enjoying an animated chat with best pal Gwyneth.
At the heart of this intimate snapshop of a byegone era is the maestro's 45-year relationship with partner Giancarlo Giammetti – the man whom he said "takes care of all the parts (of the business) that are not really pleasant".
The film reveals fascinating details of Valentino's life in couture as the camera follows him around the world with his six pugs, including how his designs are hand-sewn by seamstresses dressed entirely in white.
