Eccentric British actor Bill Nighy – he admits to being an obsessive texter, disliking daylight and having a deep fear of shorts – delivered red carpet action in Berlin this week where he joined the rest of the The Boat That Rocked cast on the promotional trail.
The film depicts life at the legendary pirate radio station which operated off a ship moored in the North Sea.
Playing air guitar and wiggling his fingers in Sixties moves - he admits to some "embarrassing dancing" in the film - the actor presented snappers with plenty of funky photo opportunities at the screening.
It wasn't all smoke and mirrors, however. Bill, who played an aging rocker in Love Actually and stars as a DJ in the new flick, really is passionate about music. "I tend towards the rockier stuff I suppose, like the (Rolling) Stones and The Who."
Playing it himself, however, was not an option. 'Too lazy," says the 59-year-old. "I did pick up a guitar once, but the strings hurt my fingers so I put it down again."
