While flapper style is often channelled by Tinseltown ladies on the red carpet few have perfected the look as perfectly as Drew Barrymore. Her recently-dyed platinum crop softly waved in the manner favoured by actresses of early Hollywood, her alabaster skin perfectly set off by scarlet lips, and effortlessly stunning in a nude Alberta Ferretti gown, Drew was the poster girl for Twenties glamour.
The 34-year-old actress' opulent new look was in honour of the New York unveiling of her latest film, Grey Gardens. She stars as eccentric Little Edie Beale in the true riches-to-rags story of a mother and daughter who were relatives of Jacqueline Kennedy Onassis.
After reading the script Drew passionately desired to be part of the project. "I would have done anything for this part," she says. In preparation to play the reclusive character, Drew didn't talk on a mobile phone, watch TV or read or listen to anything Little Edie hadn't seen or heard.
"I went into a total monastery and didn't speak to any friends for three months," she explains.
Joining Drew at the film's Big Apple presentation this week was her on-off boyfriend Justin Long and co-star Jessica Lange. The 59-year-old actress plays Drew's mother – Big Edie Beale - in the drama.
