It was role industry insiders talked of as Kate Beckinsale's best performance to date, and there were even suggestions it could lead to an Oscar nomination.

In the end, however, the political thriller Nothing But The Truth, in which she stars with David Schwimmer, was shelved for financial reasons. And the company behind the story about a journalist imprisoned for revealing her sources went under without going on general release.

Now fans of the beauty will get to see the movie on DVD, reports the Daily Express. Director Rod Lurie says the news will be welcome to Kate, who accepted a 95 per cent pay cut because of her belief in the role.

"(The film) gives her the chance to show off the extraordinary acting chops she has, which maybe she felt got a little lost in the action films she did.

"There was talk of a best actress nomination for Kate. Then it was: 'Guess what Kate, your movie is not coming out.' It was extremely sad for her."

Funding issues meant Kate's political thriller Nothing But The Truth - buzzed as her most powerful role to date - never made it into cinemas. Now, however, it's to be released on DVD
