There was plenty of excitement generated by the awards-giving element of Sunday's Baftas, when a host of small screen talents including Sir David Attenborough and French and Saunders were honoured. Vying for attention, however, was the parade of TV beauties swanning up the red carpet. They were led by Tess Daly, who has surely had one of the most stylish pregnancies ever.

A vision in a royal blue mini dress that flattered her blossoming figure and focused attention on her shapely legs, the Strictly hostess sent the flashbulbs into overdrive as she arrived.

Also on stunning form in the favoured colour of the night scarlet were Michelle Ryan, Louise Redknapp and Patsy Kensit.

If the Holby City actress was especially radiant in her floor-length siren red silk creation that might be due to her wedding last weekend. She's now Mrs Jeremy Healy after tying the knot for the fourth time with the DJ.

Other notable appearances were made by Davina Macall and Jenni Falconer, who both looked stunning in sea hues. The Scots lass was particularly to be commended for her stunning look, having hot-footed it from competing in the London marathon.

Inside the glitzy venue attention rightly shifted to the serious business of the evening - the prizes.

Sir David walked off with the specialist factual Bafta for Life In Cold Blood - the eighth time he and his wildlife programmes have been honoured at the awards - 48 years after he received his first accolade from the Academy.

In a surprising result Poppy Shakespeare actress Anna Maxwell Martin beat off a strong challenge from EastEnders favourite June Brown for top female acting prize.

Harry Hill's TV Burp show beat Jonathan Ross' chatshow in the category for the best entertainment performance, while The Bill delighted its supporters with the award for best continuing drama.
