Weeks ago, when Hollywood was shaken by the revelation that Mel Gibson 's wife of 28 years Robyn was planning to divorce the actor, reports emerged of the Braveheart star's involvement with Russian singer Oksana Grigorieva. This week those stories appeared to be confirmed when Mel turned up to a film premiere in LA with the pretty brunette on his arm.

Strolling hand-in-hand down the red carpet at the unveiling of Hugh Jackman's X-Men: Origins: Wolverine film, Mel and Oksana seemed very much a couple. The 39-year-old, who has an 11-year-old son with her former partner, British James Bond actor Timothy Dalton, certainly seemed taken with Mel, who is facing what expected to be one of the world's most expensive divorces.

According to California law Mel's former dental nurse wife could seek half of her husband's estimated £605 million fortune. The couple are understood not to have signed a prenuptial agreement.

In papers lodged with the LA Superior Court earlier this month 53-year-old Robyn cited "irreconcilable differences" as the reason for the split. She also listed the separation date as "to be determined", though a response from Mel's lawyer noted it as August 26, 2006.

American TV show Access Hollywood reported Mel and Oksana have been seeing each other for three years. She is signed to his record label Icon.

Last week the 53-year-old star asked members of the Eastern Catholic Church Bishops Conference in St Louis to "keep me in your prayers, I'm going through a bad time in my life".
