Maggie Gyllenhaal and Peter Sarsgaard, 38, wed in an intimate ceremony in the cloister of a 15th-century Italian convent in Brindisi on Saturday.
The long-term couple, who have been together since 2002 and are parents to two-year-old daughter Ramona, swapped vows in the Convento di Santa Maria di Costantinopoli, now a luxury eight-bedroom bed and breakfast.
A family friend conducted the 30-minute service which was attended by 40 friends and family members, including the bride's sibling Jake Gyllenhaal, who's a close pal of the groom, and his girlfriend Reese Witherspoon.
Following the official proceedings the newlyweds and their guests chatted in the grounds of the convent before partaking of a wedding feast prepared in a kitchen brought in specially for the occasion.
Accompanying the cuisine was a local wine from Lecce, while the entertainment was provided by an Italian outfit which serenaded the party with Italian classics such as 'Tu Si Na' Cosa Bella Pe Me – You Are A Beautiful Thing For Me – and Volare.
On their first day as husband and wife Maggie, 31, and Peter had brunch with their family before jumping on their bikes and cycling into the town for a spot of shopping. They then headed to the secluded Acquaviva Bay, which is famous for its mixture of sea and fresh spring water reports US magazine People.
