Pixie Lott to make TV acting debut in BBC1's 'Inspector George Gently' drama

March 27, 2013

Pop starlet Pixie Lott will make her TV acting debut in BBC1 detective drama Inspector George Gently. The Mama Do singer will play Megan, an entertainer at the Blue Bird Holiday Camp, in a feature-length film for retro series which is set in 1969.

"I love the fact that Inspector George Gently is a period drama set in the Sixties and I can't wait to play the role of Megan," said the songstress. "It will be great to be filming in the North East, and getting to play a role that gives me a real feel for the period." Pixie will begin filming in Northumberland next month alongside the lead character Martin Shaw. "Pixie was very excited about joining the cast and we are delighted that Pixie is to make her TV acting debut in Inspector George Gently," said producer Matthew Bird. "We know she will bring something very special to the role."

Matthew was looking for an actress who could sing, dance and act and was impressed by Pixie's performance in a promotional film in which she and Rowan Atkinson recreated the Sophia Loren and Peter Sellers song Goodness Gracious Me for the NHS organ donation campaign.

In the film, written by Jess Williams, Gently and his partner Bacchus are sent to the holiday camp to investigate staff and holidaymakers, when the body of one of the entertainers is washed up nearby. The popstar previously made her feature film debut in 2010 when she appeared in indie comedy Fred: The Movie. Pixie's debut single Mama Do was released in June 2009 and went straight to number one in the UK Singles Chart. She topped the charts again with Boys and Girls three months later.
