The Cannes Film Festival is officially underway, and the opening night was all about one leading lady — Carey Mulligan. Surrounded by some of the biggest names in Hollywood, the British actress commanded all the attention as she stepped onto the red carpet for the grand unveiling of The Great Gatsby. Joined by her handsome co-star Leonardo DiCaprio, Carey, 27, looked every inch a silver screen starlet in a dusky pink couture Dior gown. She wore her blonde hair in a straight slicked-back style, injecting a bright pop of colour to her glamorous look with vibrant red lips.
Leonardo, dapper in a tuxedo, received the loudest cheer of the night from the crowds, many of who had been camping out since Sunday night to catch a glimpse of cinema's biggest names.Carey and Leo, 38, were joined by fellow Great Gatsby cast members, Isla Fisher, beautiful in a layered red silk dress by Oscar de la Renta, and Tobey Maguire. All the stars were greeted by a sea of umbrellas as they pulled up at the opening event, to keep them sheltered from the pouring rain.Despite the weather, Nicole Kidman received a very warm reception as she arrived for the premiere in a gown created for her by Dior. The Australian actress is on the Cannes 2013 jury alongside stars including Steven Spielberg, Life of Pi director Ang Lee and Django Unchained's Christoph Waltz.
Audrey Tautou acted as mistress of ceremonies on the night. After the opening show, which included a performance by Lana Del Rey, the star-studded audience were treated to a 3D screening of Baz Luhrmann's adaptation.Other famous faces attending the first event of Cannes 2013 included model of the moment Cara Delevingne. The 20-year-old stood out from the crowd in a stunning floor length black Burberry gown with lace detailing, working her magic for the cameras with smokey eyes and deep red lips.She wasn't the only young British beauty hitting the red carpet. Georgia May Jagger smouldered in a long scarlet dress with matching rouge lipstick and a plunging neckline. The two girls were joined by one of the original supermodels, Cindy Crawford, 41, who looked simply sensational in a glamorous white gown.Julianne Moore, Frieda Pinto and Naomie Harris also graced the red carpet, injecting even more glamour into the prestigious opening night.
