Cartier recreate Grace Kelly's royal jewels especially for Nicole Kidman

May 17, 2013

Nicole Kidman is a very lucky lady. Top jewellers Cartier have recreated some of their most beautiful pieces worn by Grace Kelly especially for the Australian actress to wear in a new film, Grace of Monaco. Grace, who married Rainier III, Prince of Monaco in 1956, was a well-known lover of the Parisian jewellers. When Rainier proposed to her, eight months after they first met, it was with a 10.47 carat Emerald-cut diamond Cartier ring.

The Hollywood beauty — mother of Monaco's current ruler, Prince Albert — received many more Cartier jewels as gifts from her husband throughout their marriage, and even some as wedding presents. She continued to wear specially-created pieces until her tragic death in 1982.It's no surprise then that Cartier were asked to come on board to help with the production of the Olivier Dahan-directed film, which is due for release in 2014.With consent from the Monagasque royal family, it has reproduced Grace's beautiful engagement ring for Nicole to wear throughout filming, as well as some of the late star's other stand-out pieces, including a diamond-encrusted poodle broach, a three-strand necklace and a diamond and ruby tiara.

According to the Telegraph, Cartier's rue de la Paix store also provides the backdrop for the film's seminal scene, when Grace announces her retirement from Hollywood to devote herself to royal duties, draped in jewels. The film focuses on Grace's role during the dispute between her husband and France's Charles De Gaulle, which came close to causing an invasion of Monaco.
