September 23, 2013

Michael Douglas might have arrived for the 2013 Emmy Awards without Catherine Zeta-Jones by his side, but his estranged wife wasn't far from his mind as he received a coveted trophy for Behind the Candelabra. As he stood on stage to accept the Emmy for the best actor in a movie or miniseries, the 68-year-old star paid tribute to the Welsh actress, 43, and his three children. "I want to thank my wife Catherine for her support, my kids Dylan and Carys, and a shout out for my oldest son Cameron and hoping I'll be able and they'll allow me to see him soon," he said.

Cameron, Michael's son from his first marriage to Diandra Luker, is currently imprisoned for drug possession. Michael's wedding ring was clearly in place at the star-studded ceremony, where he was warmly greeted on the red carpet by Matt Damon and his wife Luciana. In his acceptance speech, Michael paid a cheeky tribute to his Candelabra co-star. "Obviously there's one nominee in particular that I really have to thank. This was a two-hander, and Matt, you're only as good as your other hand," Michael said. "So, I can't tell you… you were magnificent and the only reason I am standing here is because of you. So you really deserve half of this. Do you want the bottom or the top?"Michael and Catherine, who were married in 2000, recently revealed they were taking a "temporary separation" and have not been seen together since the announcement. However, fans of the couple will be hoping that Michael's speech means a reconciliation is on the cards.

Speaking to ET Online about the split, he said, "Everybody is fine. Nothing really more to say. We were just taking a little break. We're talking. I think everything will be fine and I'm very hopeful. "The couple have endured a turbulent few years with Michael's battle with throat cancer and Catherine's struggles with bipolar. "The stress has taken a toll on their marriage," a friend confirmed.Michael and Catherine haven't been photographed together since April, attending events on their own and holidaying separately with their two children, Dylan, 13, and Carys, 10.They reportedly decided to spend time apart shortly after he returned from the Cannes Film Festival in May.While Michael was accepting his Emmy award, Catherine spent Sunday in China attending the opening of a new movie complex.
