Oscar 2014 nominations revealed

Great Brits Chiwetel Ejiofor and Dame Judi Dench could be on the path to Oscar glory after receiving nominations for best actor and best actress respectively.

Chiwetel Ejiofor Chiwetel, 36, will go up against Matthew McConaughey (Dallas Buyers Club), Leonardo DiCaprio (The Wolf of Wall Street), Christian Bale(American Hustle) and Bruce Dern(Nebraska). Matthew is the man to beat, having lost three stone to play an HIV positive cowboy, in a performance being dubbed a 'McConnaissance'.

Cate Blanchett A raft of regulars will vy for best actress alongside Dame Judi, including Cate Blanchett Blue Jasmine), Sandra Bullock (Gravity), Meryl Streep (August: Osage County) and Amy Adams (American Hustle). Gravity and American Hustle, both up for best picture, are in the lead with ten nominations each.
