The very first picture of Peter Capaldi in his Doctor Who outfit has been revealed, a look the star describes as "100 per cent Rebel Time Lord".
The new Doctor is dressed in a dark blue Crombie coat with red lining, dark blue trousers, a white shirt and black boots in his first official picture.
"He's woven from the cloth of the past. Simple, stark and back to basics," Peter said of the costume, which was created by Doctor Who costume designer Howard Burden. "No frills, no scarf, no messing, just 100 per cent Rebel Time Lord."
Doctor Who show runner Steven Moffat added, "New Doctor, new era, and of course new clothes. Monsters of the universe, the vacation is over - Capaldi is suited and booted and coming to get you!"Peter, 55, had previously been pictured filming scenes for series eight wearing his predecessor Matt Smith's costume, while on-set photos released earlier this month show him dressed in a nightshirt.
Jenna Coleman, who plays the Doctor's companion Clara, has said that Peter is "going to be wonderful" on the BBC show. "It's been great to get up on our feet and get started," she said. "We just seem to have taken off like a rocket."
Doctor Who was named Best Drama at the National Television Awards last week, with Matt picking up the Best Drama Performance prize for his work as the 11th Time Lord.
