Emma Watson is a busy lady of late, taking her acting career into the world of fashion, and now she has become a UN goodwill ambassador. The 24-year-old star – who is famed for starring as Hermione Granger in Harry Potter movies – announced her new role of working to achieve gender equality, telling approximately 13million followers her happy news. “So excited to start work with the AMAZING people at UN Women! Xx,” she posted on her Twitter page in the early hours of Tuesday morning. “Going to be working for the United Nations Entity for Gender Equality and The Empowerment of Women (!!!)”
Emma Watson has been announced as a UN goodwill ambassador
Her message was directed at Phumzile Mlambo-Ngcuka, Head UN Women as well as her Senior Advisor, Elizabeth Nyamayaro. Emma was welcomed with a nice message from the team, who shared they were excited to have her on board and revealed that the response to the news actually crashed their website.
Despite starting her career at the tender age of 10, Emma has already proved her ability to be a humanitarian, and is a recent graduate of America’s Ivy League institution, Brown University. In the past, Emma has visited Bangladesh and Zambia as part of her humanitarian efforts promoting girls' education.
Her UN Women Goodwill Ambassador job will see her work on the empowerment of young women and she will serve as an advocate for UN Women’s HeForShe campaign in promoting gender equality.
"Being asked to serve as UN Women’s Goodwill Ambassador is truly humbling,” Emma said in a statement. “The chance to make a real difference is not an opportunity that everyone is given and is one I have no intention of taking lightly. “Women’s rights are something so inextricably linked with who I am, so deeply personal and rooted in my life that I can’t imagine an opportunity more exciting. I still have so much to learn, but as I progress I hope to bring more of my individual knowledge, experience and awareness to this role.”

On Tuesday it was announced Harry Potter author J.K. Rowling is writing a new book featuring the famous characters in their 30s.
