Girls star Allison Williams will be starring as the titular character in a new production of Peter Pan - and her proud father Brian Williams announced the news live on TV. Brian is a news anchor on NBC Nightly News and during his broadcast he said: "Just today, NBC announced Allison Williams will play the role of Peter Pan."

The 55-year-old newsreader continued: "The actress and singer is currently on the cast of Girls on HBO."He then broke from his newscast to add with a straight face: "Family members confirm she's been rehearsing for this role since the age of three, and they look forward to seeing her fly." The broadcaster then showed a family snap of Allison when she was a young girl dressed up as Peter Pan.
Allison also showed the picture on her brand new Instagram account. She captioned the shot: "Thrilled to be playing Peter Pan live on NBC in December. I've been rehearsing for a REALLY long time."In an official statement she also added: "I have wanted to play Peter Pan since I was about 3 years old, so this is a dream come true."

Peter Pan Live will air on the NBC network in December. It follows the success of the live production of The Sound of Music which starred Carrie Underwood in the role of Maria, originated by Julie Andrews in the 1965 film.Christopher Walken will star as Hook.
Allison currently stars on the hit comedy Girls which also features Lena Dunham, Jemima Kirke, Adam Driver, and Zosia Mamet. She showcased her singing abilities on the show when her character Marnie performed a song for her ex-boyfriend during an office party.
