Jennifer Metcalfe has announced she is leaving Hollyoaks. The 30-year-old actress, who has been playing man-eater Mercedes McQueen since June 2006, made the announcement on Twitter. "Mercedes is leaving the village, she needs to give her high heels a rest – my feet are knackered," Jennifer told fans.
It is not known if the actress is making a permanent departure from the Channel 4 soap, or is just taking a break – but it comes days after her on-screen sister revealed she is also leaving the show.
Gemma Merna will bow out on screen in an upcoming storyline after eight years playing Carmel McQueen.
She told the Daily Star Sunday, "I've had a great time being part of the show for eight years and I'm excited to push myself and explore new avenues.
"I've got an exciting business launch for later in the year that I'm working on. I also have some great storylines before I go. "The McQueen family shake-up will also include the arrival of three new cousins. It has been confirmed that Myra's nieces Celine and Porsche will be appearing on the soap, joined at a later date by their teenage sister.Nurse Celine, played by Sarah George, is described as having a huge heart but is "nobody's fool", while Porsche, played by Twinnie Lee Moore, has been billed as "racier than her four-wheeled namesake" Mercedes, but fiercely loyal with a "good moral compass".
