Two of Hollywood's hottest leading men, Ryan Gosling and Russell Crowe, are teaming up for a new detective drama set in the 1970s. In The Nice Guys, Ryan will play a down-on-his-luck detective who teams up with Russell Crowe's "hired leg-breaker" to solve two cases, a missing girl and the death of a porn star, which at first seem unrelated. The two soon find themselves embroiled in a much bigger conspiracy than either expected.
Deadline reports that the film will be directed and written by acclaimed director Shane Black, and will go in to production later this year before a 2016 release.
In recent years Ryan has had a lot of success working in the crime genre, beginning with The Place Beyond The Pines, and most recently with success at the Cannes Film Festival with Only God Forgives.
He is also preparing for fatherhood, after it was announced in July that his girlfriend of three years, Eva Mendes, was seven months pregnant. The couple managed to keep the pregnancy a secret, with Eva not attending the premiere of Ryan's directorial debut at the Cannes Film Festival in May.
Russell premiered his biblical epic Noah earlier this year in the UK - and during promotion made a surprising revelation about HELLO! Online blogger Giovanna Fletcher and her husband, McFly's Tom Fletcher.
During a junket interview, Russell said: "This guy Tom McFly right," he begins. "I’ve seen two of his things, one is where he recently had the baby and did a time lapse thing of his wife getting bigger and bigger and bigger and then going off having the baby and coming back within a three-minute time lapse. "But that led me to a video of his wedding speech and song and I sat and watched that and what came to my mind was I’ve just met one of the richest men in the world," he continued. "
That man has such a rich internal life that gave me deep pleasure to watch those things."
