The film was written by the Saving Mr Banks star, and explores the controversial true story of the troubled and ultimately doomed relationship between Victorian art critic John Ruskin and Effie, his teenage bride.
Dakota Fanning stars as the 19-year-old bride who sets their relationship into unavoidable and inevitable scandal when she filed an annulment under the grounds of "incurable impotency" in order to marry artist John Everett Millais (Tom Sturridge).
Speaking to Yahoo back in 2012 when filming first began, Dakota revealed: "It’s about her journey back to becoming a whole self again."
She’s such a strong woman — and such a modern woman for the time in which she lived."
Script write Emma added: "It's the ultimate bad marriage. It happens to be a costume drama, but you could be doing a story with this kind of complexity and oddness in any period."
Effie Gray will be released in the UK on 10 October.
