George Clooney to receive lifetime achievement award at Golden Globes

George Clooney is to receive the Cecil B. DeMille Award, an honorary Golden Globe for his "outstanding contributions both in front of and behind the camera. "Theo Kingma, President of the Hollywood Foreign Press Association (HFPA), announced that the Oscar-winning actor, director and producer will be honored in January at the Golden Globes Awards."The HFPA is honored to bestow the Cecil B. DeMille Award to George Clooney to celebrate his outstanding contributions both in front of and behind the camera," said the association's president.

George, 53, is a two-time Oscar winner, having picked up gongs for his role as supporting actor in Syriana, and as a producer of the 2013 best motion picture Argo.He has also won three Golden Globes, including best actor for his part in The Descendants in 2012 and O Brother, Where Art Thou? in 2001. News of the honorary award comes as George prepares to wed his beautiful lawyer love, Amal Alamuddin, in Italy in late September.

Last week the star let the world know that he can't wait to tie the knot with his fiancée. As he recently accepted the Andrea Bocelli Humanitarian Award on stage at the Palazzo Vecchio, he made a public declaration of love. In concluding his speech, he said: "I would just like to say to my bride-to-be, Amal, that I love you very much. And I can't wait to be your husband." Previous winners of the Cecil B. DeMille Award include actors Jodie Foster, Morgan Freeman and Robert De Niro, and directors Steven Spielberg, Martin Scorsese, and most recently, Woody Allen.
