Reese Witherspoon and Joaquin Phoenix star in first trailer for Inherent Vice

Joaquin Phoenix and Reese Witherspoon lead a star-studded cast in this first trailer for the highly anticipated Inherent Vice.

An adaptation of Thomas Pynchon's best-selling novel,  Inherent Vice is set at the tail end of the 1960s, and Oscar winner Joaquin stars as private eye Doc Sportello, whose former girlfriend suddenly returns with a story about her current billionaire boyfriend and a plot by the billionaire's wife and her boyfriend to kidnap that billionaire.

Doc soon finds himself down a rabbit hole of  increasingly surreal situationsand before long realises that he's in deeper than he expected.

Owen Wilson, Benicio Del Toro, Jena Malone, and newcomer Katherine Waterson also all star in the odd tale of surfers, hustlers, detectives, loan sharks, and sax players, out in the UK on January 30th 2015.

2014 has seen a return to the big screen for Reese, who starred alongside Joaquin in  Walk The Line in 2005.

Her film Wild, which has its UK premiere at the London Film Festival next month , has seen rave reviews and talk of awards contention for the 38-year-old actress.She also recently finished filming her latest work, Don't Mess With Texas, an action comedy which also stars Sofia Vergara. The two bonded during filming and Reese helped Sofia celebrate her birthday earlier in July. 

"Happy verde to me with these two amazing women that I luv and admire!!" Sofia wrote next to a photo shared on her Twitter page. "I will miss u!! @reesewitherspoon and Anne Fletcher❤️❤️❤️"
