October 12, 2014

Jennifer Gibney and her partner Tristan McManus were the second Strictly Come Dancing couple to be voted off the show. The Mrs Brown's Boys star and her Irish dancing partner left the show after losing the dance off to pop star Simon Webbe and his professional partner Kristina Rihanoff on Sunday night.

"Before this, I didn't know how to dance. I wanted to learn how to dance and I now know how to jive, how to waltz and how to foxtrot, however badly!," Jennifer told Tess Daly. "I've learned three dances and I've had a great time with Tristan. He is one of the family and he will remain one of the family."

Dancer Tristan also had sweet words for his partner: "Jenny tried her best. She made every day that I've known her so far as enjoyable as the next. I hope she's not telling lies now and she will talk to me after tonight! It's been a pleasure to get to know you and your family. "In the Strictly 'movie week' special, the 14 couples each performed routines inspired by some of the greatest films of all time in a bid to impress the viewers at home – as well as judges Len Goodman, Darcey Bussell, Bruno Tonioli and Craig Revel Horwood in the studio. The judges' scores were combined with the results of the viewers' votes to decide the lowest scoring two couples facing the dance off.

Both couples then performed their routines again; Simon and Kristina danced their rumba to Take My Breath Away from Top Gun and Jennifer and Tristan performed their foxtrot to Mamma Mia, from the Abba-themed movie of the same name, in a bid to impress the judges and remain in the competition. After both couples had danced a second time the judges delivered their verdicts. Craig chose to save Simon and Kristina.Darcey agreed with Craig, saying: "I think both couples upped their game 100% tonight but the couple I'd like to save is Simon and Kristina".

Guest judge Donny Osmond, who also performed on Sunday night, chose to save Simon and Kristina, meaning that they were safely through to next week. "I congratulate both couples. You really committed to this last dance but the one that I would like to see go through is Simon and Kristina," he said. Although the decision was already made, Len Goodman and Bruno said they would have also saved Simon and Kristina: "I agree with my fellow judges. Simon and Kristina had the edge," revealed Bruno.
