Gillian Anderson wants Ghostbusters 3 role: 'I'm free and I'm funny'

Gillian Anderson has revealed that she would love a role in the hotly anticipated all-female Ghostbusters film.

"OH MY GOD, I just looked it up online," she wrote during an Ask Me Anything Q&A on Reddit.

She continued: "Paul Feig, cast me now! Start a Twitter petition! I’m free!!!!!"

"I’m free I’m free and I’m funny, goddamnit!" A Reddit user later offered to campaign on her behalf and Gillian replied: "MAKE IT HAPPEN!!" After months of speculation it was revealed that Paul Feig, the director of Golden Globe-nominated film Bridesmaids, will write and direct an all-female Ghostbusters film alongside screenwriter Kate Dippold.

"It's official. I'm making a new Ghostbusters & writing it with @katiedippold & yes, it will star hilarious women. That's who I'm gonna call." tweeted the 53-year-old filmmaker.

Katie and Paul also worked together on the box office hit The Heat, which starred Sandra Bullock and Melissa McCarthy.The all-girl remake of the supernatural comedy classic has been in the pipeline for some time now and original Ghostbuster Bill Murray even offered his approval for the project last month in Toronto.

“I would go to that movie, and they'd probably have better outfits, too," the 64-year-old Oscar-award winner joked. The first Ghostbusters film was released in 1984 and quickly became a success, receiving two Oscar and Golden Globes nominations, a number one theme tune and made over $295 million at the box office.
