Scott Mills leaves Strictly on a high note: 'It's the most fun I've ever had'

November 2, 2014

Scott Mills and his professional partner Joanne Clifton were voted off Strictly Come Dancing in Sunday night's episode. The Radio 1 DJ and the dancing pro faced TV presenter Alison Hammond and her partner Aljaz Scorjanec in the Halloween special dance-off. While Scott, 40, and Joanne did their foxtrot to The Addams Family Theme, Alison and Aljaz performed their American smooth to Wuthering Heights by Kate Bush.

The losing pair failed to impress three judges – Darcey Bussell, Bruno Tonioli and Craig Revel Horwood – who all agreed to save Alison over Scott. "I would like to save the couple that threw the kitchen sink at the routine – extra turns and all sorts of wafting. That is Alison and Aljaz," said Craig. Ballerina Darcey agreed, complimenting the pair on their "added flourishes" to the performance. While Bruno thanked both Scott and Alison for "turning up the fun factor on full time," the Italian judge revealed: "I have to go for the white tornado – Alison." The three votes meant that Alison and Aljaz were saved and will return to dance again next week, however head judge Len Goodman said he did not agree with his fellow judges.

Head judge Len Goodman said he would have saved Scott Mills

"Had it been left to me, I thought they were both so much fun," said Len. "They were both dancing the foxtrot so I went for the section which was the foxtrot and in that case, it would have been Scott that I would have saved." Scott, however, departed the show on a high note, reassuring judges and viewers at home that he would be keeping in touch with his dance partner. "It's something that I never thought I would do," said Scott of joining Strictly. "And I'm so glad that I said yes to it because it's been the most fun I've ever had!" Turning to Joanne, he said: "We've become friends so it's really sweet. It doesn't really end for me here because I'll still see her."

Scott Mills said he had genuinely 'become friends' with his dance partner Joanne Clifton

"He's made my first experience of Strictly so special," said the professional dancer in return. "He's the best partner I could have asked for. We've had so much fun and I'm just so proud of him. "He's come from absolutely nowhere and I think loads of people at home can relate to him – he's got two left feet – but coming out in front of everybody and just performing in front of millions of people each week, I'm so proud of him." Sunday's results show featured a rendition from Annie Lennox singing I Put a Spell on You, plus the professional dancers took to the floor to perform a spectacular barn dance. Strictly returns next Saturday at 6:30pm.
