Jamie Dornan reveals there are no 'gratuitous' scenes in Fifty Shades of Grey

November 3, 2014

Fans of best-selling novel Fifty Shades of Grey are eagerly counting down the days to the film's release, but star Jamie Dornan has revealed that viewers will not see any 'gratuitous' scenes. Despite the book's notoriously erotic plot, Jamie admitted that the contracts in place mean there is no full-frontal nudity in the film, and he added: "You want to appeal to as wide an audience as possible without grossing them out. "You don’t want to make something gratuitous and ugly and graphic."

The feature adaptation of the bestselling novel by E L James, which originated as Twilight fanfiction, is set for release on Valentine's Day 2015, and stars Jamie and Dakota Johnson as Christian Grey and Anastasia Steele.

The two begin a relationship - but Anastasia soon realises that Christian may not be telling her the whole truth about his private life

Speaking to The Observer, Jamie also revealed why he doesn't listen to critics of the book, saying: "Look, the film is not the book."

"It’s an adaptation, and Sam Taylor-Johnson is an artist as well as an award-winning film director. Look at her track record. And look at the film studios behind it. Universal. Focus. All I can say is, wait until you see it before passing judgment."

"Sam is a very bright woman, so there might be some suggestive elements to it, but I haven’t seen it at this stage, so it is hard for me to say. I’m aware of what we shot, and it wasn’t as if we shot a film without any action."
