Downton Abbey and Game of Thrones actors star in first trailer for Cinderella

November 19, 2014

Two of TV's hottest actors star in this first trailer for the anticipated live action adaptation of Cinderella. Based on the classic fairy tale, Downton Abbey's Lily James plays the titular character, who despite her treatment at the hands of her evil step-mother and step-sisters, shall make her way to the ball to meet and Prince Charming, Game of Thrones Richard Madden. The trailer tells the tale as old as time, but the inclusion of Helena Bonham Carter as Cinderella's Fairy Godmother and Cate Blanchett as Cinderella's evil step-mother looks set to make this one of 2015's best films.

Helena's Fairy Godmother appears to have the best lines, as Cinderella exclaims of her new shoes: "They're made of glass?" before the Fairy Godmother replies: "And you'll find they're really comfortable. "She then adds the classic Cinderella line: "Now, you shall go to the ball."

Cate also looks like she is also set to have a ball with her role, as her wonderfully evil step-mother first appears on screen with a cat on a leash.

Lily's Downton Abbey co-star Sophie McShera also stars alongside Holliday Grainger as the step-sisters.This first trailer may tell the familiar story of Cinderella, but it's the brilliant cast of up and coming actors as well as Kenneth's use of a bright and vibrant palette of colours and world-class special effects, as Cinderella transforms before our eyes in to her blue ball gown, as the pumpkin becomes a carriage, and the mice become horses, which make this trailer pop.

Cinderella is out in the UK on 27 March.
