The Apprentice 2014: Lauren Riley becomes the next candidate to be fired

November 19, 2014

It was another dramatic episode of The Apprentice on Wednesday, as the two teams were split up, with half flying to New York City and the others remaining in London, only for Lauren Riley to be told, "You're fired" by the end of the episode.Lord Alan Sugar told the apprentices when they met in the boardroom: "I’ll start with the advert – Summit, your one was a complete and utter joke. Tenacity’s was marginally better. "The two teams had been challenged to come up with an advertising campaign for a new soft drink – and pitch the results to experts in New York. Half of each team stayed in the UK to create and brand the drinks, leading to a power struggle as candidates decided who should get on the plane.

Lord Sugar continued: "Big Dawg – this brand is American, there’s no question of it. "The packaging was good, the branding’s not bad and digital signage was very good. And so when I collated all this information together, in my mind it is Tenacity where more mistakes were made as far as I was concerned, and therefore Summit, you’ve won. "The US teams had hit the city's sidewalks to try out their products on the general public; with one team opting for an energy drink, and the other choosing a health-conscious concoction. They then got to work filming their TV adverts using NYC landmarks as the backdrop for their campaigns.

Tenacity's team leader Mark decided to bring Lauren and Mark back into the boardroom with him. As he made his decision, Lord Sugar added: “Lauren, you’re obviously a very smart person in as much that you’re a solicitor, but I’ve heard from Nick and from Karren that you do tend to stand back a little bit. "Last week I remember saying to you that I haven’t seen anything from you, and here again, this week I’m hearing that all you did was you acted in the film and you didn’t do anything much else again. "I’ve made my decision, and my decision is this – from my instinct and gut feeling: Lauren, I don’t think you’re for me, I don’t think you’re my business partner. Lauren, you’re fired."
