Brad Pitt celebrates 51st birthday

December 18, 2014

Happy birthday, Brad Pitt! As the Hollywood heart-throb and award-winning actor celebrates turning 51, HELLO! Online takes a look at what the stars have in store for Brad, and you… This is what Brad, who is a Sagittarius, can be expecting today: Doesn't everyone think that they know exactly what's wrong with the world? Or perhaps, what's wrong with the world is that not enough people know what's wrong with it? Maybe it would all be fine if only more people had more opinions to promote and points to push. But aren't we now entering the season of good will? Perhaps the real key to success today, involves allowing certain assertions to remain unchallenged for the sake of upholding a wider peace and a more comfortable consensus.

Since seducing Geena Davis inThelma & Louise, handsome Brad Pitt has made a career playing against type as the insane -12 Monkeys and Kalifornia- the dead, Meet Joe Black, and the undead, Interview With The Vampire. It was 1994 movie Legends Of The Fall which made him a star, but the following year's Twelve Monkeys underlined he was more than just a pretty face. Soon landing roles as typical good guys, he parlayed his burgeoning heart-throb appeal into Hollywood clout to get prestige personal projects such as Seven Years In Tibet off the ground. Picking up Academy Award nods for 1995 thriller12 Monkeys, and The Curious Case Of Benjamin Button in 2009, he also turned in critically acclaimed performances in Fight Club and Snatch, but it wasn't until 2014 that Brad picked up his first Oscar, for the powerful drama 12 Years A Slave which Brad's production company Plan B Entertainment had produced.

Brad fell for Oscar-winner Gwyneth Paltrow when they were filming 1995 psychological thriller Se7en and although they went on to became engaged, the relationship floundered in June 1997. The following summer he was spotted in an embrace with Friends actress Jennifer Aniston at a New York concert. Romance continued to blossom and, on July 29, 2000, they tied the knot in a cliff top ceremony in California. By 2005 though, the relationship was in trouble, and by the end of the year the two had divorced. The official paperwork was still making its way through court when the actor became linked to another famous Tinsel town beauty, his Mr & Mrs Smith co-star Angelina Jolie. While both initially denied being involved, that December Brad filed to adopt Angelina's children - Maddox, a boy from Cambodia and an Ethiopian girl called Zahara - and their relationship seemed confirmed, although it wasn't until January 2006 when representatives for both screen talents revealed they were expecting a baby together that their liaison became official.

Daughter Shiloh Nouvel entered the world amid much media fanfare on May 2006, and the following March the family expanded again with the adoption of Vietnamese orphan Pax Thien. In July 2008 the Jolie-Pitt clan grew once more when the couple welcomed their twins Knox Leon and Vivienne Marcheline.

In 2014 the pair surprised the world by secretly marrying in an intimate and small ceremony in France. In a world exclusive, HELLO! magazine was delighted to present the first official images from the wedding – the most highly anticipated star nuptials of recent years.

Now, ten years after first meeting on the set of their first film together, the pair are working together again, on the upcoming By The Sea.

Brad is a passionate humanitarian and activist, regularly encouraging young people to vote in political elections, and supporting ONE, which aims to combat AIDS. One of six high-profile founders, Brad is a member of Not On Our Watch, which focuses on bringing attention to mass atrocities around the world, and the 51-year-old is also a founder of the Make It Right Foundation, which focuses on building affordable housing in New Orleans following Hurricane Katrina in 2005.

Brad and Angelina have also set up the Jolie-Pitt Foundation which aids humanitarian causes around the world, and the pair are also strong proponents of same-sex marriage.
