Amy Adams has interview axed after she refuses to discuss Sony hack

December 23, 2014

Amy Adams found her appearance on the Today show cancelled this week when she said she wasn't comfortable being quizzed on the Sony hacking scandal. The 40-year-old actress had been ready to talk about her new film, Big Eyes, when she was informed she would also be asked about the leaked emails. When Amy said she'd prefer not to discuss the issue, because "that had nothing to do with her", she was cut from the line-up.

Amy Adams was cut from Today when she refused to discuss the hacking scandal

A spokesperson for the Today show defended their decision to cut Amy's segment. "As a news programme, the Today show doesn't allow guests to dictate restrictions on interviews. "In this case, after hours of discussion we felt uncomfortable with the demands being made and we determined the best course of action for all parties involved was to cancel the interview." Meanwhile, the Weinstein Company – the film studio behind Big Eyes – said they stood "firmly" by Amy's decision. "We've been lucky enough to have her talents grace several of our films," a statement read. "We are certain her fellow actors and directors would all agree, she is nothing but the consummate professional both on and off set.

"Amy decided to speak up for herself and express her disappointment that Today would feel the need to ask her a question she did not feel comfortable with, and rather than respect her opinion or continue the discussion, the reaction was to pull her appearance from the show." Amy found herself caught up in the hacking scandal when leaked emails revealed she was paid less than her male co-stars for her role in American Hustle. Numerous reports have noted that the Today show recently taped a segment with Clint Eastwood and Bradley Cooper, who starred with Amy in the Oscar-winning film, but did not ask them about the Sony controversy.
