Fifty Shades of Grey star Dakota Johnson: 'I think about my dwindling anonymity'

January 20, 2015

Dakota Johnson is about to hit the big time thanks to her starring role in the upcoming Fifty Shades of Grey, and the 25-year-old actress is very aware that things are about to change.

"I think about my dwindling anonymity," Dakota recently revealed in a new interview with Vogue magazine. She continued: "And that’s really scary because a very large part of me would be perfectly happy living on a ranch in Colorado and having babies and chickens and horses—which I will do anyway."

The actress, who previously had a small role in Oscar-nominated The Social Network as Justin Timberlake's love interest, will star opposite Jamie Dornan in the film adaptation of the best-selling novel, previously published under Twilight fanfiction. Jamie and Dakota star as Christian Grey, a millionaire businessman, Dakota Johnson, a literary student, who begin a relationship - but Anastasia soon realises that Christian may not be telling her the whole truth about his private life.

"I wanted to be involved because it's so different, and it's an intense love story", said Dakota. Acclaimed director Sam Taylor-Johnson, took the helm of the adaptation, and added: "There are tough scenes in this movie, scenes where [Dakota] had to be naked - and not just in the flesh. "But she was utterly fearless and brave."

Jamie, who revealed late in 2014 that, despite the book's notoriously erotic plot, viewers will not see any 'gratuitous' scenes,  added of his co-star: "Dakota is very funny. "But she also had the ability to be a very strong dramatic actress. She'd be telling a joke one minute and breaking your heart on-screen the next. "Jamie, who also stars in the BBC drama The Fall, upset fans of the novel when he confirmed that contracts were in place to ensure there was no full-frontal nudity in the film .

He added: "You want to appeal to as wide an audience as possible without grossing them out. You don’t want to make something gratuitous and ugly and graphic."
