Eddie Redmayne and Benedict Cumberbatch battle for Best Actor one final time with Empire Awards nominations

February 24, 2015

Eddie Redmayne may be fresh off his success at the 2015 Academy Awards but there is one more awards ceremony awaiting him - the 2015 Jameson Empire Film Awards which are voted for purely by the British public. Brit actor Eddie will see himself once again up against his good friend, and fellow Oscar nominee, Benedict Cumberbatch for the Best Actor award at this year's ceremony, joining Bradley Cooper, Andy Serkis, and Richard Armitage.

Oscar nominees Keira Knightley, Felicity Jones, and Rosamund Pike also battle for the Best Actress award, alongside Alicia Vikander for Ex-Machina, and Emily Blunt for Edge of Tomorrow.

Jack O'Connell, who won this year's BAFTA EE Rising Star award, will see himself once again looking to win a newcomer award, this time, the Best Male Newcomer, next to Taron Egerton - who was one of HELLO! Online's rising stars in the world of film - and Boyhood's Ellar Coltrane. Gugu Mbatha-Raw, who was also on our list, heads up the Best Female Newcomer shortlist, with Doctor Who's Karen Gillan.

The Imitation Game takes the lead across the board with six nominations - including Best Director and Best Film - with other awards season favourites such as The Theory of Everything and Gone Girl taking three each.

The Lego Movie and 22 Jump Street

Paddington, which became the highest-ever grossing non-Hollywood family film after making $200 million (£131 million) at the box office, finds itself up against The Imitiation Game for Best British Film, and The Lego Movie for Best Comedy - although The Lego Movie directors Phil Lord and Chris Miller are in with a good chance of winning, as they are nominated in the Best Comedy category for the Channing Tatum and Jonah Hill sequel, 22 Jump Street, which they also directed.

The 20th Jameson Empire Awards take place in London on Sunday 29 March 2015.
