Powerful first teaser trailer for new Amy Winehouse documentary

April 2, 2015

It's been nearly four years since the tragic loss of Amy Winehouse, and now the first official documentary shows Amy at her most vulnerable. Featuring unseen footage and personal interviews with Amy, the star, who passed away at the age of 27, admits: "I don't think I'm going to be at all famous. I don't think I could handle it.

"I would probably go mad, do you know what I mean? I would go mad."

With a towering bee-hive, sitting atop a slender frame and tattoos that would have put a sailor to shame, Amy became one of the most recognisable faces in British music throughout the 2000s.

Known for her powerful jazz voice and knack for writing soulful lyrics, she became a household name with her 2006 album Back to Black, and the hit singles Rehab, Love is a Losing Game, and the Mark Ronson collaboration Valerie.

But Amy admits in the short 90-second trailer: "I'm not a girl trying to be a star or be anything other than a musician," and when asked how famous she may get, she concludes, "I would go mad."

The short teaser trailer is compiled of videos and audio interviews with Amy, as well as clips of the star accepting awards, performing on stage, and dealing with paparazzi on the streets.

These small snippets become one overwhelming collection of different clips with competing audio, before it fades to Amy's iconic image, complete with her signature thick winged eyeliner, and the closing of her most haunting song, Back to Black.

Amy was found unconscious in July 2011 by her bodyguard, before later being confirmed dead due to unintended alcohol poisoning. In 2014, a life-size brass sculpture, which stands at the Camden Stables, was unveiled.

"It is incredibly emotional to see Amy immortalised like this," said Amy's father Mitch during the memorial's presentation. "But Scott has done an amazing job in capturing her. It is like stopping her in a beautiful moment in time."

Directed by Asif Kapadia and the award-winning team behind Senna, Amy is out on 3 July 2015.
