Daniel Craig might play all-action hero James Bond, but a recent injury sustained on the set of the new film Spectre left the star in need of surgery. Daniel, 47, had to have a "minor procedure" on his knee in New York during a break in production over Easter. "During a scheduled break, Daniel Craig had arthroscopic surgery to repair his knee injury," a spokesperson confirmed. "He will rejoin production on April 22 at Pinewood." The rep denied reports that Daniel had missed several days of filming on Spectre, the 24th James Bond movie.

Daniel is believed to have sprained his knee back in February. One of his predecessors, Roger Moore, tweeted the news on 6 February, and joked about stepping in as a replacement if necessary. "Sorry to hear Daniel Craig has sprained his knee on set of #Spectre," the 87-year-old wrote. "Being 007 is not without its hazards. I'm available to step in if needed."Spectre marks Daniel's fourth time playing the iconic secret agent, following his debut in the 2006 film Casino Royale. He reprised the role in 2008 for Quantum of Solace and 2012's Skyfall – the latter is the highest-grossing film in the franchise and took $1.1billion (£737million) worldwide.

The latest instalment, which is scheduled for release on 6 November 2015, stars Christoph Waltz as Oberhauser – which, in the novels, is the name of Bond’s former skiing instructor. However, it has been rumoured that the actor will be revealed as 007’s old nemesis Ernst Stavro Blofeld, the head of 'Spectre', an international crime syndicate.Spectre also stars Dave Bautista as Mr Hinx, a top assassin, and Monica Bellucci as Lucia Sciarra, the widow of an assassin killed by Bond.Returning to reprise their roles alongside Daniel are Ben Whishaw as Q, Ralph Fiennes as Gareth Mallory, better known as M, and Naomie Harris, who plays Bond's loyal assistant Eve Moneypenny.
