The Oscar-winning actress plays elderly Jewish woman Maria Altmann, who embarks on a journey to retrieve family belongings including Klimt's painting The Lady in Gold, which was a portrait of her late aunt.

Along with her young lawyer Randy Schoenberg (Ryan Reynolds), Maria initiates a major battle which leads them to the U.S Supreme Court and presents them with a series of challenges along the way.

Katie Holmes makes her return to the big screen as Randy's wife Pam, who supports the lawyer throughout the court case.

The film was directed by My Week With Marilyn director Simon Curtis, and HELLO! Online have an exclusive still from the film, which shows Ryan in character as the enthusiastic lawyer.

Dame Helen said she believes the film is "very relevant" and "very contemporary".

"Maria Altman was a really remarkable woman, and I wish I had managed to meet her before she died," she told BBC.

"It's a story of justice against the odds, that's why I wanted to do it, there's courtroom drama in there too, and also the relationship of an older woman and a younger man, which you don't often get. It was rich pickings for an actress."

Of the woman who inspired the film, Helen continued: "She gave most of her fortune away. It really never was about how much the painting was worth, it was about getting her aunt back, and about justice."

Woman in Gold is released in cinemas on 10 April 2015.
