All look world-weary and down on their luck, which will be reassuring for fans that season two will be kept in tone with season one.
Colin plays Ray Velcoro, a police detective whose allegiances are torn between the corrupt police department and the mobster who owns him.
Rachel is also a member of the police force, a tough Ventura County detective named Ani Bezzerides, while former Friday Night Lights star Taylor Kitsch plays a California Highway Patrol motorcycle cop called Paul Woodrugh.
Colin Farrell makes a return to TV with True Detective
The three are bought together after the murder of Ben Casper, a corrupt city counsellor, a murder which also involves Vince's character Frank Semyon, a career criminal in danger of losing his empire when his move into legitimate businesses is affected by Ben's death.
It's a return to the small screen for Colin, who was last on TV in hit British drama Ballykissangel, while Vince, who is normally known for his comedic talents, will take on his first major TV role with the show.
Rachel McAdams plays a tough Ventura Country detective in the new season of True Detective
This will be Rachel's second TV show, after a stint in 2005 in Slings and Arrows.
Season one, starring Matthew McConaughey and Woody Harrelson, won five primetime Emmy awards including Outstanding Directing for a Drama Series.
Season two of True Detective will begin airing in the US on 21 June.
