Michael Fassbender becomes Apple founder Steve Jobs in first trailer

May 18, 2015

Michael Fassbender becomes fully transformed into the late Steve Jobs in this first trailer for upcoming film of the same name. Directed by Danny Boyle, the Oscar-tipped film is structured in three parts, with focus on Steve's friendship with fellow Apple founder Steve Wozniak, leading up to the 1998 unveiling of the first iMac.

The short 57-second trailer shows us Steve standing on a stage looking out into an empty auditorium. A voiceover, Seth Rogen’s Stephen Wozniak, a co-founder of Apple, asks: "You can’t write code. You are not an engineer. What do you do?"

Steve replies: "The musicians play the instruments. I play the orchestra … I sat in a garage and invented the future … Because artists lead and hacks ask for a show of hands."

Tense and atmospheric, the short clip ends with our first proper look at Michael as Steve, complete with the inventor's trademark wire-rimmed glasses and black turtleneck.

Director Danny, who won an Oscar for Slumdog Millionaire, has been working from a script by Oscar winner Aaron Sorkin, but the film has been in the works for many years.

Drama first surround the film when Gone Girl and Fight Club director David quit the project in April 2014 following a pay dispute with Sony.

Leonardo DiCaprio then also dropped out of the movie and was replaced by Batman star Christian Bale in October. Just a month later, however, Christian also left the film with the Hollywood Reporter saying the actor felt he "was not right for the part after much deliberation and conflicting feelings."

Three years after Sony acquired the rights to make a movie out of Walter Isaacson's biography Steve Jobs, filming for the silver screen production begun in San Francisco earlier in 2015. Filming also took place at Steve's childhood home in Los Altos, California.
