Angelina Jolie to work with son Maddox on new film

July 24, 2015

Angelina Jolie's son Maddox Jolie-Pitt is set to follow in her footsteps with a job on her upcoming film. The mother-of-six has signed up to direct and produce a Netflix Original film set in Cambodia, and has recruited her Cambodia-born son, 13, to help with production.

The 40-year-old has signed up to direct an adaptation of First They Killed My Father: A Daughter of Cambodia Remembers – the memoir of Cambodian human rights activist Loung Ung about surviving the Khmer Rouge regime.

In a statement released on Thursday, Angelina said she felt compelled to make a film about Cambodia after reading Loung's book, and worked with her to adapt it for the screen.

She said: "I was deeply affected by Loung Ung's book. It deepened forever my understanding of how children experience war and are affected by the emotional memory of it.

"And it helped me draw closer still to the people of Cambodia, my son's homeland."

The statement also confirms that Maddox will be "involved in the production of the film," although it is not yet known if his role will be on or off screen.

Angelina adopted Maddox in 2002, when he was just seven months old. She has since gone on to adopt daughter Zahara from Ethiopia, and Pax from Vietnam as well as welcoming three children with her husband Brad Pitt – Shiloh, nine, and twins Vivienne and Knox, seven.

It will not be the first time Angelina has worked on a film with a member of her family; she directed and co-starred in By The Sea with Brad, which they filmed just days after their romantic wedding ceremony in France – featured exclusively in HELLO! magazine.

She has also starred alongside daughter Vivienne, who played a young Princess Aurora in her 2014 film Maleficent, while Zahara and Pax had small walk-on parts.
