Carol Kirkwood confirmed as sixth Strictly star

BBC Breakfast weather presenter Carol Kirkwood has been confirmed as the sixth celebrity contestant taking part in the new series of Strictly Come Dancing. The news was revealed live to the nation on Tuesday morning, with Carol getting into the spirit of things and wearing a white feather boa for the big announcement."It feels really exciting, it doesn't even feel real yet, we haven't started dancing or training or anything yet," the Scottish 53-year-old said. "I think all the dancers are amazing but I do have a soft spot for Aljaz Skorjanec."

When asked if she had a favourite dance, she replied: "I can't dance, I've only done country Scottish dancing so I don't have a favourite dance, but I like the look of ballroom."I can't wait to learn to dance and hope my experience on Strictly will be a breeze, whether it will be or not is one forecast I can't predict!"Carol might be new to the world of Latin and ballroom, but she has previously sung and danced on TV, participating in a number of special routines for Children in Need. Carol appeared as part of the Newsreader's Rocky Horror Routine, and even did a duet with ex-Strictly champion Chris Hollins performing Baby, It's Cold Outside during the 2007 appeal.She is the sixth celebrity confirmed for 2015 Strictly, joining Katie Derham, Georgia May Foote, Kellie Bright, Ainsley Harriott and Jeremy Vine.As well as her weather presenting duties for BBC Breakfast, Carol also fronted The Weather Show for the BBC News Channel and has regularly appeared on The One Show. She also reports the weather every day on The Chris Evans Breakfast Show on BBC Radio 2.
