Daniel O'Donnell confirmed for Strictly: 'I love to dance'

Irish singer Daniel O'Donnell has been confirmed as the eighth celebrity to be taking part in the upcoming series of Strictly Come Dancing. The news was announced on the Steve Wright in the Afternoon show on BBC Radio 2 on Thursday afternoon.

"Earlier this year, I decided to take a short break from touring and told myself that I would only consider doing something if it was both different and exciting, well what could be more exciting than Strictly Come Dancing?," said Daniel.

"I love to dance and boy am I looking forward to getting started and being the best that I can be!" he concluded.

The 53-year-old first rose to public attention in 1983 and has since become a household name in Ireland and the UK; he has also had considerable success in the US and Australia. In 2012, he became the first artist to have a different album in the British charts every year for 25 consecutive years.

Daniel is known for his close relationship with his fan base, and his charismatic and engaging stage presence. His music has been described as a mix of country and Irish folk, and he has sold over 15 million albums.

He is the eight celebrity confirmed for 2015 Strictly, joining Peter Andre, Carol Kirkwood, Katie Derham, Georgia May Foote, Kellie Bright, Ainsley Harriott and Jeremy Vine.

On Thursday it was also revealed that singer Jess Glynne will be performing on the opening show next month. The Hold my Hand singer revealed the news to her nearly 80 thousand followers on Twitter.

"So excited to tell you guys! I'll be performing on the opening show of @bbcstrictly!!! I CAN'T WAIT!! ??".
