Emily Watson has opened up about her riveting role in Everest, in which she plays base camp manager Helen Wilton. The actress, who has been appointed an OBE for her services to drama, appears in a world excusive video released by HELLO! Online.

In the minute-long clip, Emily, 48, is seen speaking about her character and the part she played in the expedition. Everest tells the story of two climbers who, during their ascent to Mount Everest, are caught up in a severe blizzard.
The pair, who are played by Jason Clarke and Josh Brolin, must endure blistering winds and freezing temperatures and endeavour to make it back down to camp.

Emily's character played a pivotal role, as the English Rose explained: "Helen Wilton was on the radio, talking to people on the mountain, putting through messages from home.
"She was their manager, she was up there, she was part of it, she was part of that team and I think she absolutely loved it and it was the experience of her lifetime."

Just before the snow storm strikes, she must warn the climbers of the treacherous turn in the weather.
"Everybody's put into an extreme situation by what happens," said Emily. "It's very revealing of people's personalities."
Everest, which also stars Jake Gyllenhaal, Keira Knightley and Sam Worthington, is released in UK cinemas on Friday 18 September.
