Benedict Cumberbatch might be one of Hollywood's leading men – but he could soon be making a return to the small screen. Benedict, who rose to fame in hit BBC One series Sherlock, is being lined up for a very special guest appearance on EastEnders. The soap's executive producer Dominic Treadwell Collins opened up about Benedict's proposed cameo in Albert Square while attending the Radio Times TV Festival. "I really want Benedict to come and do a turn," Dominic admitted. "And he says he'll come and do it, but he is slightly busy. But he would be my dream."

While EastEnders might seem an unlikely choice for Benedict, he and Dominic in fact go way back. "He was in the year above me at school and I remember doing the Shakespeare play As You Like It," Dominic recalled. "I remember afterwards running up to me mum to see if I was any good, and she said, 'Yeah, you were fine – but that Benedict is an actor.'"If 39-year-old Benedict does make it onto the long-running soap, he might want to stay clear of Danny Dyer. Danny, who plays pub landlord Mick Carter in EastEnders, preciously told the Radio Times that Benedict would be "bullied" if he stepped into a pub like the Queen Vic.

"In this country, he has got the utmost respect, but if he walked into a pub he'd get annihilated by geezers, he'd be bullied," Danny claimed."He couldn't play a kid from a working-class estate, but I couldn't do what he does either."I think that I could play Sherlock, though, if I did it my way. Benedict's brilliant and the lines roll of his tongue, but that role is about being highly intelligent rather than posh."
