Chris Rock confirmed as Oscars 2016 host

Chris Rock will return to the Academy Award stage next year to present the Oscars 2016 ceremony. Producers David Hill and Reginald Hudlin made the announcement on Wednesday, promising that Chris will be a "phenomenal Oscars host".

The actor expressed his excitement on Twitter, simply writing "Look who's back. #Oscars" alongside a picture of himself.

Chris, who has hosted the glittering ceremony once before in 2005, also released a statement saying: "I'm so glad to be hosting the Oscars. It's great to be back."

"Chris Rock is truly the MVP of the entertainment industry," said producers David and Reginald. "Comedian, actor, writer, producer, director, documentarian – he's done it all. He's going to be a phenomenal Oscar host!"

The 50-year-old star has been in the showbiz industry for more than three decades and most recently directed the comedy special Amy Schumer: Live at the Apollo which premiered this month.

Chris has enjoyed success in both television and film. His feature acting credits include I Think I Love My Wife, Down to Earth and the Madagascar series in which he played the voice of Marty.

The actor hosted the glittering ceremony once before in 2005

The stand-up comedian also created, executive produced and narrated the series Everybody Hates Chris, which ran from 2005 to 2009 and was inspired by Chris' childhood.

Adorning his trophy cabinet are four Emmy Awards and three Grammy Awards.

The 88th Oscars ceremony will be held on Sunday 28 February at the Dolby Theatre® at Hollywood & Highland Center® in Hollywood. It will be televised live on ABC and broadcasted in more than 225 countries and territories worldwide.
