Eddie Redmayne could be on track for awards season success after receiving Best Actor nominations at both the Golden Globes and the SAG Awards for the second year in a row. While in 2015 Eddie faced strong competition from The Imitation Game star Benedict Cumberbatch, he is set to battle it out with another Hollywood star in 2016 – Leonardo DiCaprio.
The 33-year-old has been nominated for his performance in The Danish Girl, in which he plays one of the first known recipients of gender reassignment surgery, following his multiple-award winning role in The Theory of Everything.

Meanwhile Leonardo DiCaprio has received praise from critics for his performance in The Revenant, which sees him play real-life frontiersman Hugh Glass. The actor has been tipped for Oscars-success for the role, with suggestions that he could finally take home the Best Actor award after losing out on his four previous nominations.
Other actors to make the shortlist for the Golden Globes include Bryan Cranston, Michael Fassbender and Will Smith, while Johnny Depp is also in the running for the award at the SAGs.
The actor's recognition at the Golden Globes and SAG Awards suggest they may also receive a nod from the Academy – however they won't know for certain until the Oscars nominations are announced on 14 January.

Eddie's Danish Girl co-star Alicia Vikander also received a nomination for Best Actress at the Golden Globes, while Cate Blanchett and Saiorse Ronan appear to be the leading ladies to beat in 2016.
The stars won't have to wait too long to learn their fate as the Golden Globes kick-start awards season on 10 January, with Ricky Gervais confirmed to host and Jamie Foxx's daughter Corinne acting as Miss Golden Globe.
The SAG Awards will follow on 30 January, while the Oscars will bring awards season to a close on 28 February 2016.
