The nominations for the 68th edition of the BAFTA Awards, the biggest and most prestigious film awards outside America, were revealed in London's Piccadilly on Friday morning.Eddie Redmayne received a nomination for best actor for playing Lili Elbe in The Danish Girl – making it two nominations in a row following on from his 2015 win for The Theory of Everything. He is up against Leonardo DiCaprio for his role as Hugh Glass in The Revenant as well as Bryan Cranston in Trumbo, Matt Damon in The Martian and Michael Fassbender for histitle role in Steve Jobs.
Eddie Redmayne has been nominated for a BAFTA for the second year in a rowWhen it comes to best actress, Cate Blanchett is up against Dame Maggie Smith for The Lady in the Van. Brooklyn's Saoirse Ronan, Alicia Vikander, and Brie Larson have also been nominated.Steven Spielberg's spy thriller Bridge of Spies and Todd Haynes' love story Carol each received nine nominations. The Revenant is nominated in eight categories while Mad Max: Fury Road has seven. Brooklyn and The Martian are each nominated six times. The Big Short, The Danish Girl and Ex Machina receive five nominations while Star Wars: The Force Awakens receives four.
Cate Blanchett has received a BAFTA nomination for CarolStephen Fry and actress Gugu Mbatha-Raw joined BAFTA chair Anne Morrison to announce the nominations.
