Surprise! Matt LeBlanc joins Chris Evans as Top Gear host

February 4, 2016

Former Friends star Matt LeBlanc has been revealed as one of the new presenters of the upcoming return of Top Gear.

Matt's appointment marks the first time the show has ever had a non-British host in its 39-year history. "As a car nut and a massive fan of Top Gear, I'm honoured and excited to be a part of this iconic show's new chapter. What a thrill!", he said.

The news has been met with great excitement by both Matt and Top Gear fans. One Twitter user commented: "He has saved Top Gear.. #ItsPorSha," referring to the time he mispronounced Porsche during an episode of Friends.

Another user said: "What a move from Top Gear getting Matt LeBlanc. I thought that show had absolutely no chance. And now I want to watch it."

In what promises to be an explosive cocktail of car-obsessed entertainers and cultural clashes - the eagerly anticipated return of the revamped show is expected to noisily announce itself on BBC Two and TV screens everywhere this May.

Matt LeBlanc will join production immediately and additional Top Gear cast members will be confirmed soon.

Last year, and after months of speculation, the BBC confirmed that Chris Evans would be the new host of the hugely successful motor programme. "I'm thrilled, " said Chris in a statement made via the BBC.

"Top Gear is my favourite programme of all time. Created by a host of brilliant minds who love cars and understand how to make the massively complicated come across as fun, devil-may-care and effortless. When in fact of course, it’s anything but and that’s the genius of Top Gear's global success."
